Abstract: One approach that has continued to receive attention over the past decade is the "flipped classroom" model. In this model, information addressed during class time in the form of lectures and demonstrations is now enfolded into carefully crafted assignments that are completed out of class. With the aid of current technology tools, these out-of-class assignments can be designed in an effective manner to ensure that students have access to and can gain added information. As a result, in-class time allows for more efficient use of the instructor's time to provide scaffolding and guidance as students apply newly learned information. Built upon a theoretically sound and research-based foundation, this study served two purposes: (1) to investigate higher education faculty perspectives of the flipped classroom model of teaching; and (2) to examine the impact the flipped classroom model of learning may have on student achievement. While research supports the use of this model in K-12 school settings, the presentation of the current study takes this model of teaching to the university level, therefore broadening audience appeal to include not only K-12 educators but also educators in higher education. In this presentation, researchers will share information about the study and provide time for the audience to think about how the flipped classroom model may work for them.
