Abstract: There has been a significant increase in the number of students of color seeking postsecondary education in US colleges and universities, attributed in part to federal, state, and institutional policies designed to improve higher education opportunities over the last fifty years. Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) has been put forth as a concept to address the needs of the diversifying student population in higher education institutions. Gay (2010, p. 31) defines this pedagogy as “using the cultural knowledge, prior experiences, frames of reference, and performance styles of ethnically diverse students to make learning encounters more salient to them. It teaches to and through the strengths of these students”. This study examines the design and development of an online professional development course for CRP using the ADDIE instructional design model. Expert course reviewers, using an adapted Quality Matters rubric, assessed the course and provided feedback that was applied to the course. The implementation and evaluation plan is discussed along with future initiatives to continue the professional development efforts of CRP at the institution.
