Abstract: The need to prepare teacher candidates to be able to effectively use technology in the classroom has taken on greater importance in recent years. The 2017 US-ED National Educational Technology Plan calls for teacher preparation programs to adopt a technology infusion model, one that puts technology at a program-deep and program-wide level. Instead of relying solely on one stand-alone technology course, infusion is system-deep and system-wide, coordinated efforts to (1) teach technology-related principles in methods coursework; (2) model effective technology use; and (3) provide candidates with opportunities to design and implement technology-supported instruction throughout the program (Borthwick et al., 2020). This panel explores five programs with different models for implementing technology infusion. Presenters will address their model, role, challenges encountered, and next steps. The presentation will close with an audience discussion of how other institutions are implementing elements of infusion and what resources are needed to advance the cause.
