Abstract: In this paper, we push back against this idea of the necessity of constant connectedness in the 21st century. To do so, we first we outline the cognitive, economic, and social costs of a world that is constantly connected. Then, we describe and provide evidence from a self-study on technology use. We conclude with suggestions and advice for how people can, and really should, be vigilant with their technology use.
