Educator Awareness of Space Science Learning Resources: COVID Pivots and Implications for Educational Technology Professional Development

Abstract: Pre and post data were gathered from educators attending the NASA Playground 90-minute session at the online International Society for Technology in Education 2020 annual conference regarding educators’ awareness of and preference for technology-infused space science resources. Analysis of data revealed that the wide collection of AR, VR, smartphone and computational thinking activities were well perceived as avenues to support greater engagement in learning for K-12 students. Implications of findings were that additional avenues such as the newly-emerging NASA-ISTE PLN, and the availability of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from NASA facilities should be more widely promoted in preservice and inservice teacher education programs.
