Share Paper: Using a virtual motion simulation to create hands-on activities to support preservice teachers’ algebraic growth

Abstract: In 2019, we received a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant that integrated motion into a college algebraic reasoning course. The initial design included the use of motion detectors and group learning. However, after the Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic conditions required social distancing, adaptations to the original curriculum had to be implemented. We transitioned to online learning. Here, we highlight how to use an online motion simulation to connect slope-intercept form to motion through the use of position/time and velocity/time graphs.
