Abstract: This reports the first phase of a research project that has analysed the most recent survey data regarding the work conditions of female teachers and researchers in Japan. Although the number of female teachers and researchers in the education sector is substantial (UNESCO, 2018, 2019), their work conditions have been a social taboo to discuss due to the integrity required by the profession in our society. This research project was therefore made to develop an in-depth analysis on the data available online of the work conditions focusing on female teachers and researchers in Japan to provide a data-driven prospect for the students in teacher training. The analyses of those factors include detailed academic backgrounds and gender, which have not been publicly examined in Japan (MEXT, 2020a). This paper suggests a potential breakthrough in career designs for the students for self-realisation beyond various boundaries in society.
