Abstract: Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, higher education institutions have suffered revenue losses due to campus closures and low student enrollment. Online continuing education programs for working professionals has become an area in which institutions can recuperate losses. However, online teaching had not been the preferred method prior to the pandemic. Therefore, it was unfamiliar to many faculty members and administrators. Some departments scrambled to convert recorded classes for the purposes of online continuing education, while others strategically planned and guided faculty to produce webinars. The presenter will share two different models used at a major research university in the United States for supporting two different schools to build online continuing education programs. Streamlined workflows and strategies for collaboration will be shared, along with necessary resources for departments that aspire to provide effective online continuing education programs to working professionals. Participants will share with each other how online continuing education programs have been supported during the pandemic, as well as resources available to faculty and administrators in their institutions. Finally, the presenter will guide the participants to consider efficient ways to support online continuing education programs.
