Using Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL) to Teach Document Design in a Technical Communication Course

Abstract: In this presentation I will discuss how I developed a personalized adaptive learning (PAL) module to teach document design using the Realizeit platform. I will then demonstrate the module and describe how I used it in a senior-level technical communication course. Next, I will explain how, based on my initial use of the module, I created a research study to examine the effectiveness of the PAL module for teaching document design compared to a more traditional presentation of the same course material. I will share the results and conclusions from that study and discuss my plans for further research. I will conclude by offering suggestions for how faculty members in other non-STEM disciplines might use personalized adaptive learning in their courses.
