Abstract: This presentation uses the twin-lenses of multiliteracies and reader-response theory to examine how prospective English teachers mobilized and designed 3D printing as a form of literary response. In particular, it explores 3D printing as a technology of designing inquiry. By detailing how 3D printing and the design process affected prospective teachers’ discussion and responses to Jimenez’s (1997) The Circuit, the presentation details the aesthetic, conceptual, and socio-technical choices made my prospective teachers in fabricating response to young adult literature. Findings highlight how 3D printing, as an artifactual response and project of inquiry, operated as a form of critical literacy.
