Peer-Based Teaching and Learning in a Maker-Based Educator Preparation Course: A Design-Based Research Study
Abstract: This paper reports on the second iteration of a design-based research project on a maker-based educator preparation course, designed for diverse students with divergent career objectives. In particular, this paper focuses on how the main course elements (i.e., a mastery orientation, flexible design, and intentionally decentered instruction) impacted the peer-based teaching and learning that occurred. Analysis indicated that the course design encouraged peer tutoring, cooperative learning, and collaborative learning, and that students valued highly the peer-based teaching and learning that occurred.
