Abstract: Microsoft’s PowerPoint can be a powerful tool to use to support young writers as they build their writing skills and publish their work. By using the strategy of customizing PowerPoint through the Slide Master View, teachers can make PowerPoint more accessible for all learners. By accessing and capitalizing upon the Slide Master in Microsoft’s PowerPoint software, teachers can create templates for student-authored books and projects. This strategy is designed for teachers who wish to make their writing lessons more engaging and more responsive to students’ developmental and academic needs. Customized templates can be used across content areas and across all grade levels to engage even reluctant writers in meaningful and motivational learning experiences. These projects are also powerful in promoting community building within classrooms and connecting with families.
