Abstract: Creating a degree program in communication media that can be offered in an online environment is no easy task, especially when the degree program was originally conceptualized prior to mainstream online learning. Face to face and online students are able to enroll in select online media production courses as a part of their degree requirements. Moving media production courses designed for face to face instruction to an online format requires understanding from both students and instructors. This paper explores the experience of instructors who have taught documentary photography both online and face to face, and of students who were enrolled in either an online or face to face section of the course.
