The Design of Group Reading Activities With a Group Awareness Tool -An Experimental Study on Pre-service Teacher

Abstract: Group reading plays a significant role in the professional development of pre-service teachers. There is an urgent need for a tool to monitor their reading progress and regulate their socially shared emotion when reading collaboratively. However, there are few studies about group awareness tools in group reading. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to design a group reading activity and analyze the impact of OPro project on socially shared monitoring and socially shared emotion regulation. 15 pre-service teachers from educational technology department in a Normal University in China participated in group reading activities, and the awareness of shared monitoring and socially shared emotion were investigated through quantitative pretest-posttest and qualitative interview. results showed that the group reading activity with OPro project had significant effect on shared cognitive monitoring and socially shared emotion regulation. The interview of pre-service teachers also supported the statistical results. The significance of this study is designing group reading model with OPro project tool for pre-service teachers to apply in reading activities.
