A 3D VR-enabled Online Orientation
Abstract: It this showcase, we will present how we created and conducted our virtual reality online orientation (VRO2). Using OpenSimulator and Firestorm, we created a VR-based online orientation for purposes of 1) providing new online program students with an alternative to attend the orientation and 2) exploring the possibility and benefits of doing orientation in a more immersive way to engage students better. By the end of 2019, there will be approximately 60 students attending the VRO2 for their orientations. We consider the VRO2 a very first step of an even bigger, or more ambitious, plan – that is, to create a VR-based online program to offer a more immersive learning experience to online students compared to existing web-based online programs.
