If You Tweet It, Data Will Come: Using Social Media for Education Research
Abstract: Recruiting survey study participants through social media has proven effective in a variety of fields but is not yet common practice within the field of education. With a growing number of educators and pre-service educators using social media as a platform for professional learning networks, social media offer researchers a chance to connect with educators who are interested in communicating with researchers and participating in studies. Leveraging social media for research recruitment offers access to a growing number of educator study participants, but comes with a new host of practical and ethical considerations. This paper seeks to explore and expand upon considerations for using social media to recruit pre-service and in-service educators for research.
