Share Paper: Scientists Make a Difference: The Results of a STEM Intervention with Elementary Students

Abstract: Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities in school libraries provide an opportunity for students to share their individual experiences while learning new perspectives and discovering how to work collaboratively to solve real-world problems using STEM skills. This paper examines the results of a STEM intervention that utilized a transmedia book with 26 fourth grade students in 2018. The results provide a preliminary analysis of the intervention outcomes. Findings indicate that the belief that scientists make a difference was not related to the students’ desire to pursue a science career or their academic achievement.
