Preparing Teacher Candidates for the edTPA through Reflective Clinical Digital Stories: A strategy for practicing justifying instructional practice.
Abstract: Early Childhood teacher candidates are often stressed by the edTPA process. Further exacerbating the situation is the limited knowledge that school-based mentor teachers have about edTPA. This roundtable session will share the results of a research project on a program called Reflective Clinical Digital Stories, which is a technology-rich pedagogy that involves using digital storytelling as a tool for guiding teacher candidates to (1) discuss instructional practice with their cooperating teacher and (2) practice explaining and justifying their instructional decisions to others. The presenters will provide a comprehensive review of relevant research and results of the Reflective Clinical Digital Stories research project. There will be time for participants to (1) consider integration of the Reflective Clinical Digital Stories pedagogy in their own teaching practice, (2) share their own ideas and experiences, and (3) engage in discussion about other technology-rich strategies they use to maximize edTPA preparation for Early Childhood teacher candidates.
