Abstract: We identified the problem that many of our (working) master student’s in the Educational Needs program had trouble reading and studying the course materials on a regular basis. This often led to less than desirable results, especially when it came to theoretic understanding and the integration of theory and practice. We also identified reading comprehension problems in the assigned reading. We felt the need for more interactivity throughout the courses in order to foster more regular learning processes and we wanted to scaffold the assigned reading. In two consecutive courses, we used two different tools for interactivity and support: PeerWise, and Padlet. We will report about advantages, disadvantages, student reactions and student use of the tools. Overall we’re satisfied with the effects of the tools on the regularity of the student’s learning activity, on the interactivity, on their reading and on the results of the courses regarding theoretic understanding and theory- practice integration. However, the two tools differed in their ability to elicit intrinsic motivation in students.
