Abstract: Early algebra is an emerging term in mathematics education research (Lins & Kaput, 2004) focused on the introduction of algebraic thinking in the elementary grades. Educational researchers and game developers at our land-grant university are using a proven successful process to create new computer-based games, which will increase early algebra preparation for formal algebra learning. The new games are grounded at the earliest levels in numerical and visual environments and move toward more abstract and symbolic understanding.
