Abstract: A capstone experience in media production has become commonplace for digital media communication programs in higher education. This paper examines the experiences of students who have completed an in-house internship creating digital programming for community-based television shows. These digital storytelling projects require students to work in a collaborative environment as no one student has experience in every aspect of the process of creating digital media. The projects are also community based and client focused to create a realistic working experience for students. Experiences and insights are included which examine the student experience in navigating a client-focused, collaborative service learning project.
