Abstract: Conic sections are an integral part of the high school mathematics curriculum and represent an opportunity to analyze multiple representations: verbal definition, algebraic, and graph. Adequately prepared pre-service secondary mathematics teachers require a deep understanding of conic sections and their representations. The author introduces one teaching experiment that works to develop this understanding through the use of dynamic geometry software. Those concerned with preparing secondary mathematics teachers to teach with technology will particularly benefit from this research.
