Abstract: Purdue University Global (PG) is an online public university that focuses mostly on adult learners, who already have extensive life and work experiences and are ready to pursue their educational goals. It is an adult-serving university, and most of the programs are geared toward career-building programs that are delivered online by using Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS). Brightspace has many user-friendly teaching and learning tools, but it also has an automated outreach tool, known as Intelligent Agents (IAs), and this tool helps a professor create customized automated messages to the students, who meet certain criteria that are established by the professor. To monitor students’ activities in the course, motivate learners to be successful in the course, and inspire them to continue pursuing their educational goals, the professor can create such IAs as a personalized welcome to the course message, missing assignment reminders, congratulations on successful completion of a certain unit, and many others. This presentation will discuss the types of Intelligent Agents that can be created on Brightspace or D2L, their purposes, the steps how to create them, and challenges that professors may face while creating them. Furthermore, the presentation will focus on effective leadership strategies that encourage professors to use this effective outreach tool that is already available to them on online Learning Management System (LMS).
