Abstract: Though qualitative research is gaining popularity and earning greater respect in social science fields, there is currently a lack of literature describing effective methods of teaching qualitative research, specifically in the online setting. Further, because of the vastness and complexity of qualitative research, it can be difficult to teach the main methodological concepts in one class alone. However, despite the noted challenges, introductory courses at both the graduate and post-graduate levels have the potential to open up a new world of inquiry and exploration for learners. Through appropriate and effective coursework, students can confidently learn to both understand and produce qualitative research. It is the intent of this brief paper to present methods of tackling the instruction of qualitative research in primarily an online course.
