Abstract: There is no denying that 21st Century learners are their own unique group of learners. Despite this, and the fact that we are in the 17th year of the 21st Century, too often classrooms (and learning environments in general) are not designed or operating in ways that meet the needs of these learners. In this paper we reflect on who our so-called 21st Century learners really are and what kind of environments are best suited to their unique needs. We close with a consideration of how we as educators might alter the way we teach in order to best prepare our teacher candidates to work with these unique learners.
