The Impact of Hawaii’s Access Learning Program onTeachers in Eight Public Schools
Abstract: In 2013, the state of Hawaii joined the long list of states, districts and individual schools who have piloted 1:1 computing programs. The first year of the Access Learning pilot program was conducted from September 2013 to May 2014 and provided all teachers in eight schools on two islands with laptop computers, and schools and teachers technical assistance. All schools received professional development for integrating laptop technology into their curriculum and instruction. This research study examined the impact that technology had on supporting innovative and effective teaching, engaging students in learning by providing interactive and quality content, and the potential for technology to alleviate burden on educators. This research paper provides some descriptive evidence about teacher use and the impacts on teachers and students.
