Abstract: This paper provides an overview of dropout issues and the potentials of the use of educational technology in decreasing the number of dropouts. It starts with a report of the facts of dropouts in the United States and Mississippi as well as the factors that cause dropouts. Then, the paper continues with an overview of educational technology, indicating the role of educational technology in dropout prevention, the trend of online learning in K-12 education, and a discussion of how the use of educational technology and online learning can be an effective approach to facilitating students with low-performance in the learning process.
