Abstract: The research paper examines the association between the quality of instructional material with multimedia and its impact on learner’s proficiency/performance. The setting for this research is at the Defense Language Institute (DLI), Arabic department which has a standard curriculum and where students are required to take the Defense Language Proficiency Test 5 (DLPT5) at the end of 63 weeks of instruction. This is a battery of foreign language tests produced by the DLI and used by the United States Department of Defense (DOD). They are intended to assess the general linguistic competence of native English speakers in a specific foreign language, in the skills of reading and listening. Students pass the test if they achieve 2 or more in both reading and listening.
