iPads as an Approach for Teaching Technology Integration for Secondary Preservice Teachers
Abstract: In an undergraduate preservice teacher program, students are immersed in a "Block" of coursework and a practicum experience with an interdisciplinary approach to technology integration. The program utilizes learning communities and cohorts as well as authentic learning with one-to-one laptops in the second year of the four-year university program. The semester-long experience addresses the need for the next generation of teachers both to experience technology integration from a student perspective and to learn how to integrate technology as a teacher. This paper illustrates how the faculty incorporated mobile devices, specifically iPads, into the teaching and learning experience of this 12-credit block of courses to advance the preservice teachers’ disposition, knowledge, and skills in integrating technology appropriately.
