Abstract: This roundtable discussion will center around lessons learned during a collaboration between a teaching with technology course for preservice teachers and two classes of ninth-grade social studies students. Together, the preservice teachers and the ninth graders, located in a different city, created an interactive, web-based visualization based on the students’ research of the Tiananmen Square incident of 1989. Feedback on the students’ work was primarily crowdsourced from the site’s viewers. Communication and work flow between the groups was facilitated by a variety of synchronous and asynchronous digital resources. Potential topics for discussion will include rationale for undertaking such a project, details of technology use and other logistics, and perceived effect of the project on the participants.
