Abstract: Internationalizing Teacher Education can bring many benefits to a teacher education program however there are often numerous logistical, administrative, financial, credentialing, and resource issues that must be addressed in order to have a successfully sustained, impactful international strategy. For those teacher educators who are committed to this goal, it may feel as though internationalization efforts are not sufficiently supported by their administration and they are left on their own to make it happen. A recent phenomenon, known as “Do It Yourself” (DIY) philanthropy has been gaining momentum, so why not DIY Internationalizing Teacher Education? In this panel session, we will discuss some of these projects: how they got started, where they are headed, what positive and not-so-positive experiences they encountered, and thoughts on how these project might go from a one-person operation to a sustainable institution-wide agenda. We will also discuss the ways in which technology, and especially new social media, can facilitated our efforts.
