Educational Web Portals: Moving Forward to Web 2.0 and M-Learning
Abstract: Research has shown that despite the increased presence of Web portals in higher education, student usage of portals has failed to meet expectations (Presley & Presley, 2009). It is possible that this lack of a clear vision for the content and function of Web portals has served to lesson the effectiveness of what otherwise has the potential to be a very powerful tool in education. In order to reverse this trend and increase student acceptance of Web portals, it is necessary to design portals that better meet the needs of today’s students. The benefits of Web 2.0 and mobile devices for learning are discussed and suggestions are made for integrating these technologies into educational Web portal design.
