Abstract: In a world where knowledge and artificial intelligence (AI) are growing at an exponential rate, there is an increasing demand for learners to develop foundational AI knowledge, strengthen contextual problem-solving skills, understand and utilize AI technology to tackle real-world problems. Among the pedagogical practices, game-based simulation has shown the unique potential to engage learners in virtual learning environments and scaffold instructions to give students agency. The study designed and implemented a game-based simulation that introduced the concepts of algorithm design for middle school students as they engaged in the game situation. Students worked in groups to compete with AI game ...
