Abstract: The landscape of effective teaching in higher education continues to change with the advent of new technology, yet teaching evaluations have remained stagnant. Given the increased focus on effective online/hybrid teaching, now is the perfect time to consider new forms of evaluation that can not only measure effectiveness, but further promote the adoption of innovative teaching technologies and blended pedagogical strategies. In this session, we scaffold discussion among instructors on the following three themes: 1) what evaluations are effective in providing useful formative feedback to instructors, 2) how can evaluations be adapted to promote teaching innovation, and 3) how can we foster the use of such teaching evaluations to improve the fast-growing technology-based educational landscape? By the end of the session, educator participants will leave with a list of brainstormed evaluation criteria and strategy suggestions that they can take away and use to support their own curriculum building.
