Choosing the Right Online Activities and Technologies to Support Higher-Order Student Learning Outcomes in COVID-Era Virtual Learning Spaces
Abstract: Best practices in teaching and learning using different technologies in virtual learning spaces is certainly not a new concept in TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge). However, creating effective online activities to elicit higher-order student learning outcomes has presented educational professionals with unique challenges in the COVID-era of online teaching and learning. There have been multiple challenges in transitioning from the traditional brick-and-mortar to digital classrooms and remote learning.During this demonstration, participants will engage in collaborative and interactive activities such that at the session’s end, they will be able to: • Identify current technologies used to complete higher-order key tasks and student learning outcomes pre-COVID (F2F) • Identify anticipated or current higher-order learning outcomes associated with those technologies pre-COVID (F2F) • Match higher-order digital learning outcomes with existing technologies/best practices • Explore emerging and trending ed tech to bridge the gap between face-to-face and remote learning • “Marry” the “old” F2F and the “new” virtual learning venues and TPACK techniques
