Abstract: The research presented in this paper aims to explore and describe K12 educator online video usage prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. This preliminary literature review describes video implementation into classes and levels of student interaction. Findings based on successes of teacher-created and teacher-sourced videos in the K12 educational setting are presented, along with anecdotal benefits and challenges of using video. Successes of using teacher-created videos in the K12 education setting include increased interest in the material and a more personal experience. Challenges include adequate time to develop and find suitable video to support learning outcomes. Successes with teacher-sourced videos appear to support increased active learning while challenges include extraneous information not relevant to the intended learning outcomes. As part of a larger research project, this literature review previews a case study which seeks to identify additional questions and information in order to inform a larger educational video research project.
