Abstract: In 2018, we received an NSF Noyce grant that included a plan for the implementation of engineering camps with middle school students and school personnel (including preservice and in-service teachers). However, due to the Coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic, we were unable to implement the engineering camps as planned. Here, we present our solution to this logistical problem using an engineering design challenge activity that was virtually implemented. Our approach is presented here to guide others who are facing similar challenges—the need to meet community STEM interactive learning experiences (often included in grant proposals) despite social distancing requirements.
