Abstract: Abstract: The connection between students’ identities and learning materials promote a sense of belonging, even with math word problem content. Unfamiliar or uninteresting content of word problems can become problematic or distracting to learners. Whereas, familiar and meaningful content can engage and motivate learners while supporting their academic successes. In this study, we consulted with four teachers to further inform the design of a system that generated math word problems using the interest of elementary students.
