Abstract: This study explored the principles, practices, and procedures used during a design research project building online professional development modules focused on problem-based learning. The design team focused on four learning principles that frequently became problematic in implementation of problem-based learning: constructive, self-directed, collaborative, and contextual. The research resulted in a better understanding of how challenges and opportunities related to these four principles were present in the development of the modules and potential solutions.
