Reaching Every Student in the Digital Age: A Showcase of UDL Strategies in a Large Online Course
Abstract: The author will explore how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Universal Design for Instruction (UDI) strategies were implemented in SPTE 274, Computer Applications in Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management course, with an enrollment of 180 students, at the University of South Carolina - Columbia. The paper will discuss the course structure and examine how universal design (UD) techniques were used to create an inclusive learning environment. A survey was completed by students to determine the impact of UD strategies that were incorporated in the course. The purpose of this chapter is to provide educators with a bank of UD strategies that can be used in online courses.
