Abstract: Participants in this roundtable discussion will exchange ideas and approaches for using qualitative research methods for studying international students’ use of communication technologies (CT) during their study abroad The proposed study will focus on international students in America and American students in Japan although examples from other projects and locations are welcome A pilot study collected quantitative data which failed to provide much insight into exchange students’ use of CT It is hoped that a qualitative approach may shed more light onto these students’ use of technologies as they adjust to life in a new country
