Share Paper: Designing an Interactive Online Case Exercise: Process and Tools, Design Challenges, and Lessons Learned

Abstract: A professor in the online MBA program for working adults at the Graziadio School of Business and Management (Pepperdine University) collaborated with an instructional designer, located on the opposite coast, to create an interactive exercise in which students used Porter’s Five Forces model to analyze an industry. Developing the exercise, which incorporated the higher-order skills of critical thinking and evaluating alternatives, proved to be more challenging than expected.
