Abstract: A local (council) service that provides education to children (aged 5-16years old), too unwell to be at School, in their homes, via a peripatetic network of qualified teachers, approached the University looking for solutions around limited travel time, and exploring on-line options. This paper outlines how we went about working with the service to design a solution. We ended up spending more time than initially anticipated involved in staff training and pedagogical debate (to substantive benefit), and actually ended up with a blend of commercially available tools (using a VLE and a video-conferencing/working tool) to suit their very specific needs. The paper will also explore the barriers encountered, and what lessons were learnt about e-learning developments with established educators and non-experts.
