Abstract: So, you have to create an on-line course. That sounds simple enough. It turns out, it isn’t so simple. As most people know, it is not a matter of just placing the face-to-face documents on-line and call it good. What, if any, are the constraints placed upon you in developing the course? If the professor has complete autonomy, then he or she has control over every aspect of the course and its development. If there is an external group or company that has control over the courses or program, that is no longer true. Decisions about how the course looks, what you can do, what you can require, what software you can use, what you have to use can be determined by the developer or an external source. The on-line course can change depending on such constraints. This presentation compares and discusses those different challenges.
