Abstract: The 21st century has seen the emergence of instruction-rich digital texts. These texts provide unique affordances, like hearing the text read aloud, multimedia, built in questions, and the ability for readers to interact with teachers and peers through social-sharing features. Given the options, the question of “where do I start” and “which is the better text” becomes overwhelming. However, the more fundamental question is “how do these platforms impact reading and language arts pedagogy”?
