“Check Out My Website”: Enhancing Sustainability Literacy Using Digital Artifacts

Abstract: During this best practices session, we will discuss the use of a digital artifact that incorporates Project Based Learning attributes in the hybrid course Sustainability Science for Teachers, at Arizona State University. We explore 819 digital artifacts crafted by students over three years of the course by assessing technologies they used and the sustainability themes they selected. We also explore how these same aspects differed over time as a result of providing example digital artifacts to more recent cohorts of students. This session will offer a discussion on how to create a digital assignment that can scale to meet larger populations of students, and still remain authentic to serving higher levels of thinking and engagement.
