Designing a Training on Online Course Development and Learning Technologies for a Higher Education Institution in a Developing Country

Abstract: This session is a report on planning, implementation, and outcomes of a training workshop on online course design and learning technologies at a private higher education institution in the country of Georgia. The training included topics on instructional design principles, assessment and instructional strategies in online teaching, tools for content creation and reuse, introduction to Moodle LMS, group work in online environment, and use of mobile digital devices in a classroom. The tools and resources selected for the training were free and open source to meet the needs of the faculty teaching with very limited available resources. The outcomes of the training will be presented in the framework of addressing the challenges encountered by distance educators in developing countries. The session is targeting instructional technology professionals interested in research and practices related to e-learning and learning technologies in developing countries.
