Abstract: In this session, we will report on best practices that we have employed to integrate a focus on technology into our mathematics content and methodology courses. We will share best practices including the types of tasks that benefit from the use of technology, the variety of cost-effective software that exists to support a range of levels of mathematics and some of our students’ work. We will share results of one project where we used technology to support mathematical inquiry into problems of social justice. Using mathematics to understand and address issues of social justice continues to be a very relevant field of study especially in urban schools of which there are many in HISD and where our students will likely get jobs. Time will be allotted for the sharing of other best practices for integrating technology meaningfully into preservice mathematics teacher education from the audience.
