Abstract: The goal of this roundtable discussion is to exchange ideas and approaches for studying exchange students’ use of communication technologies. The author’s current research seeks to better understand the role of communication technologies (CT) in the cultural adjustment of exchange students and to develop strategies for enhancing the adjustment of future exchange students. This research focuses on Japanese students in America, although speaking to researchers studying students from other countries would be helpful. The author intends to collect data and analyze exchange students’ use of CT (both domestic and international), identify communication strategies that contribute to positive cultural adjustment, and develop communication recommendations to improve exchange students’ acculturation process.
