Abstract: The purpose of instructional design is to create experiences that maximize student learning. Instructional designers for online learning begin instructional design process with defining educational objectives, continue with arranging learning and teaching activities and finalize the process with the development of assessment procedures. With the growing interest in computational thinking (CT), the question becomes how to design learning for this specific thinking skill so computational thinking could be taught effectively. This paper focuses on the first phase of instructional design in which designers plan for learning objectives that will eventually result in expected learning outcomes. It’s the author’s expectation that online instructors interested in computational thinking will use this discussion as a starting point in their curriculum design and development for CT.
